A good relationship with your employees is what contributes to your success. Without their dedication and diligent work, you wouldn’t be able to conduct successful business, so you need to make sure to show them appreciation and respect. Here are some tips on how you can develop and maintain a strong and positive relationship with your employees that would lead to improving their morale.
Treat your Employees Equally
Your office shouldn’t have room for favoritism towards some of the employees. It’s perfectly natural that you might be fond of some employees more than the others, but under no circumstances are you allowed to demonstrate that. You need to be fair, reward anyone’s good work, apply rules uniformly and have positive attitudes towards individuals that might be wayward at times.
Be Honest with your Employees
If you expect your employees to be honest with you, you need to be honest with them. It might sound like a cliché but “honesty is the best policy”. If you are straightforward with your employees, it will show that you respect them, and in return, they will treat you in the same manner. If you lie to them, and they find out, you will lose their trust and you’ll never be able to build a strong relationship with them.
Assign Appropriate Duties
Giving your employees responsibilities that will challenge them and provide them with the opportunity to grow can be quite motivational. This will make them feel like an important part of your company and they’ll value their jobs more. You need to support their development and encourage them to progress by enabling them to strengthen their existing skills and competencies, and gain some new ones.
Don’t Act Superior
Just because you’re a department manager or a company owner, it doesn’t mean that your employees are inferior. Yes, you have the authority, but you shouldn’t be condescending and use every opportunity to remind your employees that you’re the boss. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should completely hand over your authority, but you need to value their opinions, listen to their ideas and treat them as your equals.
Provide Relaxation Time
Your employees’ lives don’t revolve around your company; they have their personal responsibilities, and issues. Try not to keep them working too late, make sure to give them sick days when needed and allow them to take breaks during work hours. However, you need to strike a balance, since you can’t let you employees come and go as they want.
Give your Employees Gifts
Company gifts are a great way to show appreciation to your employees. Whether you give them presents for Christmas, New Year’s Eve or their birthdays, it will demonstrate that you care about them and that you’re grateful for their contribution. Think about giving them company T-shirts, pens or planners, but try to make them personal. You can opt for a range of printing services, and you’ll probably get a discount on a larger order.
