Establishing a digital learning environment for your employees shows that you are invested in them, wanting them to succeed and improve. However, you don’t need to offer in-person training and classes. You can provide a culture of learning from hundreds of miles away. Let’s take a look at several ways to create a digital learning environment for your remote employees.
1. Consider Podcasts
Many individuals are attracted to the flexibility of remote careers. In fact, the traditional 9 to 5 shift is becoming increasingly rare. Instead of fighting time zones and attempting to schedule times when your entire team can meet, consider educating your employees with tools such as podcasts. Podcasts are ideal because your employees can listen to them while driving, cleaning their homes, walking their dogs, etc. Additionally, by consistently listening to your podcasts, your employees can get to know you — the managers and executives — on a more personal level — a difficult accomplishment for a remote team.
2. Utilize the Latest Technology
Various types of technology can simplify the education process for your remote employees. They can learn through videos, webinars, virtual learning systems, etc. However, no matter what type of technology you choose, invest in the best and latest models. Additionally, be sure to offer several learning types so you can reach each employee through his/her preferred type.
3. Focus on Small Groups
When you begin to establish a digital learning environment for your remote workers, focus on a small team or group. Test the various strategies and technologies you wish to utilize. By first concentrating on a small group, you can work out the kinks in the system, making it much more enjoyable for your entire team.
4. Determine How You Will Measure Learning
According to research from Deloitte, employees have approximately 20 minutes per week for learning and career growth. Unfortunately, unless tasks are required, employees may not complete them. Develop a method to track employees’ learning to ensure they make time for it. Certain lessons and education programs you choose may include timers and progress reports. If you choose methods that do not include these, you may need to create time logs, require weekly reports, etc. Determine which method works best for your remote team and for the type of technology you decide to utilize.
